Leonardo Da Vinci Example For Students

Leonardo Da Vinci Biography Memoir Painting is verse that is seen as opposed to felt, and verse is painting that is felt instead of seen. Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) Leonardo da Vinci is viewed as one of the most celebrated specialists everything being equal. By being one of the makers of High Renaissance craftsmanship in Italy, he is eminent as an ace of oil painting, including the painterly procedures of chiaroscuro and sfumato, which the capable painter utilized while taking a shot at his artful culmination, Mona Lisa. He was acceptable in fine art, chiseling, developing, building structure, science and unquestionably merits his name to be recalled alongside different virtuoso individuals of the Renaissance time. Leonardo da Vinci was conceived in a group of a notable Italian lawyer, Ser Piero on April 15, 1452, in Anchiano. His home was settled close to the town of Vinci that furnished the last name we partner with the unbelievable craftsman today. Leonardo’s mother, Caterina, wedded another man and a young man began to live with the group of his dad. Leonardo didn’t go to formal school and got casual training in math, geometry, and Latin. A kid was unfathomably skilled, and his abilities in drawing and painting were seen by each and every individual who had a chance to work with him. A wide number of uncommon aptitudes da Vinci got from a notable craftsman Verrocchio. By being a disciple, Leonardo learned metallurgy and cowhide expressions just as cleaned the abilities he obtained before. At the point when he was 20, he got one of the individuals from the painters’ society of Florence. Leonardo likewise collaborated with Verrocchio on his artistic creation â€Å"Baptism of Christ† simultaneously. There are different works of his dating that time. The first is Ginevra de Benci, portrayed in 1474. It is the female picture of the seventeen years of age Ginevra de’ Benci with the obscured sky, trees, and mountains on the foundation. As detailed by history specialists da Vinci’s most loved subject to paint was Madonna and Child. He delineated a few artworks on this topic alongside various representations and drawings. Painted on 1478, Benois Madonna is a pretentious representation of Madonna and a Child indicating affection and delicacy to one another. One of different works made during this period was a Saint Jerome (1480). Leonardo painted Saint Jerome bowing in an unassuming stance close to the cross of Christ in the desert. This work delineates the troublesome period in the life of the craftsman, which can be contrasted with a desert and dry spe ll without water and downpour. In 1478, Leonardo started to work freely and got his first undertaking for an altarpiece in a church inside Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio, which was rarely finished. In 1482, Florentine ruler Lorenzo de Medici asked da Vinci to structure a silver lyre for Ludovico Sforza. During that time Leonardo showed his building information by drawing distinctive war machines to be fabricated. A youthful ability likewise made a grandiose equestrian sculpture, in bronze, to respect line author Francesco Sforza that took 12 years to execute. Da Vinci was extraordinarily talented in science and workmanship. Additionally, he didn't see a division between them. He said that the blend of both helped him to improve as a craftsman. While living in Milan, Leonardo began to paint â€Å"The Last Supper† wall painting creation. This work was a remodel to the congregation assigned by Ludovico Sforza. Da Vinci spoke to the location of The Last Supper of Jesus with his twelve pupils, as it is depicted in the Gospel of John, 13:21. After the defeat of his supporter Ludovico Sforza in 1499, Leonardo Da Vinci ran away to Venice and afterward to Florence. There he brought forth one more arrangement of pictures included â€Å"La Gioconda† or â€Å"Mona Lisa.† This dazzling work of High Renaissance representation workmanship is named after its subject, Lisa del Giocondo, conceived Lisa Gherardini, the spouse of a Florentine dealer. Painted between around 1503 and 1506, â€Å"Mona Lisa† is a moment of all out brightening, brought with equivalent power through to the stones and sky out of sight. The craftsman draws the puzzling grin of Mona Lisa to reveal some of insight into the representation. The individuals who welcome the intensity of workmanship additionally noticed the baffling nature of the lady portrayed in her eyes and corners of the mouth. The detail of the face shows the impact of sfumato method utilized by da Vinci as his mark. â€Å"Mona Lisa† is the main Leonardo da Vinciâ₠¬â„¢s representation from that time of his life that endure. It is housed at the Louver Museum in Paris, France, where it pulls in a great many guests. .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c , .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c .postImageUrl , .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c .focused content region { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c , .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c:hover , .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c:visited , .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c:active { border:0!important; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; obscurity: 1; change: mistiness 250ms; webkit-progress: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c:active , .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c:hover { haziness: 1; change: murkiness 250ms; webkit-change: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-adornment: underline; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt span: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-improvement: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece 943c .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u452be519392cbb41c38143883ece943c:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Juan de ParejaLeonardo needed to recreate motions and developments all the more precisely, and hence, he began considering the life structures of human and creature bodies. In addition, he gave his chance to contemplate plant science, geography, zoology, hydrodynamics, aviation, and material science. Da Vinci led logical perceptions and had a couple of papers and scratch pad where he noticed all his hypothetical remarks. At the most recent long periods of his life, Leonardo came back to Milan to work for the French rulers who had overwhelmed the city. Notwithstanding the way that those years he committed to logical investigations, he did a touch of painting and had a couple students.â Later, in 1513 he migrated to Rome. At this age, he delivered just one canvas, the â€Å"Saint John the Baptist.† The piece delineates Saint John the Baptist in confinement. Through an utilization of chiaroscuro, the figure seems to rise up out of the shadowy foundation. Holy person John is wearing pelts, has long wavy hair, and is grinning takes after the one of ‘Mona Lisa.† This work of art communicates the extraordinary results of Leonardos treatment of light; the light is persistently sifted from the dim foundation to the more conspicuous planes in the forefront, and itself turns into a demeanor of room and physiognomy, converging with the figure and the face, as it inclines forward and grins cryptically, and with the representative raising of the finger; this is not, at this point a voice crying in the wild however the gatekeeper and observer of an initiatory mystery, a way to the understanding of the pith of mankind and thus the inestimable substance. The use of “second class” organs is a necessity in transplantation The WritePass Journal

The utilization of â€Å"second class† organs is a need in transplantation Unique The utilization of â€Å"second class† organs is a need in transplantation AbstractIntroductionConcerns of NHBD as â€Å"second class† organsI. worry on whether the benefactor is truly deadII. Concerns on the withdrawal of careConclusionReferencesRelated Unique There are numerous moral, legitimate and strict perspectives with respect to organ gift. Insights from 2009 by UK Transplant Organization indicated that, there are 8000 individuals on the holding up list, with just 3000 transplants every year. This shows we have to build the interest for organs the same number of individuals are passing on. There are two fundamental hotspots for human organ gift: from the living and from the expired. Gift from the perished includes two sorts: heart thumping contributors (HBD) and non-heart pulsating benefactors (NHBD). HBD has been the essential hotspot for organ gift throughout the previous thirty years, however this wellspring of gift is declining.â Scientists are presently focussed on utilizing NHBD to restore and build the giver pool, yet this type of obtainment is tormented with numerous moral issues. It is taken a gander at as a†second class’’ type of gift. NHBD includes gift of organs from two sources: controlled and uncontrolled. Controlled are benefactors who have had â€Å"irreversible mind injury† yet they don't qualify the cerebrum demise standards. Where as, in the uncontrolled, the giver may endure a heart failure and bite the dust after revival may demonstrate pointless. The key discussion with this acquisition is the meaning of death as relatives locate this difficult to manage when the need emerge for them to settle on a quick choice . Along these lines, NHBD obtainment remains somewhat disliked despite the fact that it has the possibilities of expanding the benefactor pool by up to 30%. Presentation Transplantation is the moving of organs or tissues from one individual (the giver) to another (the beneficiary), or to a similar individual. The motivation behind transplantation is to supplant the recipient’s organs or tissues which have bombed because of disease or injury to improve wellbeing. Organs that can be transplanted incorporates: the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas and digestive organs. Though tissues that can be transplanted include: cornea, skin, veins, bones, ligaments and heart valves. Organs or tissue transplanted inside a similar individual is known as a signature. A transplant between two people is known as an allograft. .xenotransplantation includes the transplantation or mixture of organs or tissues fron one animal groups to another. For instance, the transplantation of a babbon liver into a HIVpatient , acted in 1992. The patient kicked the bucket 70 days after the fact (Greenwell et al., 2007). Xenotransplantation is a hazardous in view of the non- similarity and dismissal, which may prompt passing (Greenwell et al., 2007). Transplantation is a perplexing and testing territory of current science. Lack of givers is restricting transplantation hence both living and expired benefactors are utilized to expand contributor flexibly. (heart thumping andâ non heart pulsating), ( Chaib E 2007). The quantity of heart thumping contributors (HBD) keep on diminishing, hence the concentrate currently is to utilize cadaveric organs from non heart pulsating benefactors (NHBD). The primary issue with this kind of gift is the manner by which one may characterize passing and who gives assent for the donor’s organs to be utilized in transplantation. This raises a great deal of moral issues.â People began depicting NHBD as below average organs, however open certainty has improved the same number of studies ( Sanchez-Fructuosa et al 2000, Nicholson et al 2000) has demonstrated the that the utilization of NHBD is a promising option to enlargeâ the contributor pool particularly in renal transplantation. Nations including the United Kingdom, USA, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland and Japan have all actualized NHBDs conventions in medical clinics (Knoll et al 2003). Worries of NHBD as â€Å"second class† organs HBD has been the principle hotspot for transplantation over the most recent 30 years (Chaib E., 2007), yet this wellspring of gift is declining along these lines the accentuation is on NHBD to expand the gift pool as the requirement for organs continues expanding. The contrast among HBD and NHBD is the meaning of death. In HBD, the pulsating heart giver is cerebrum harmed and on ventilation before death, while with NHBD the benefactor may have endured a heart failure and revival might be vain. In 1976 the Harvard Medical Committee utilized the mind stem testing to announce passing, yet this was not appropriate, in this way, the Maastricht workshop in 1995 pronounced that demise is irreversible discontinuance of all elements of the cerebrum including the cerebrum stem† . In 1995 the Maastricht Workshop which is a universal workshop separated NHBD s into four classifications: class 1 and ll includes the uncontrolled gathering where givers are dead on appearance or where revival has been fruitless. In this gathering, mechanical ventilation is acted so as to keep the organs suitable while anticipating for assent from the patient’s family. Classification lll and lV includes the controlled gathering where contributors are holding up heart failure or who had heart failure while cerebrum dead (Chaib E.,2007). In spite of the appraisal and meaning of the planning of death for NHBDs and its capability to build gift by 30%, it despite everything faces numerous moral, legitimate and clinical concerns. The open feelings of trepidation include: I.â worry on whether the benefactor is extremely dead There are two standards for death contributor rule, characterized by the Uniform Determination of Death Act (UDDA): an individual is dead if both circulatory and respiratory capacities have halted and if all elements of the whole mind, including the cerebrum stem has halted. This standard is very urgent in NHBDs gift and expresses that demise must not be scrambled for the demonstration of gift. Families are very worried that halting heart siphon action and cardio respiratory capacities doesn't qualify demise and that the 10 minutes â€Å"stand off† period to meet all requirements for both cardiovascular and cerebrum stem passing models isn't sufficient ( Zamperetti et al 2003). II. Concerns on the withdrawal of care In the controlled setting ( Maastricht , class lll and lV ) families are wary about the choice to expel life bolster ventilators and may have fears that doctorsâ may have one-sided enthusiasm for theâ in anticipation of collecting organs and abusing their friends and family. They stress if in the case of leaving their friends and family in a coma may in the long run breath life into them back and what state will they be in during drawn out life support or the alternatives of revival. There are likewise numerous questions structure surgeons who imagine that NHBD is a â€Å"shameful demonstration of cannabilism overlooks the probability of auto revival and that the minds of these patients are not in reality dead (Potts M., 2007)â just as the way that the cerebrums of these patients are not genuinely dead. They accept that the medications given to the perishing benefactor might be helpful for the givers organs yet negative to the contributors wellbeing. Additionally the way toward expelling the organs for gifts causes demise in the patient and that NHBD must be prohibited as it conflicts with the act of medication (Verheijde et al 2007). With all the fears as to NHBD, a significant impediment has been the absence of oxygen arriving at the organs during the period when ventilations is pulled back, known as warm ischaemia. . Warm ischaemia can be an issue as it can influence the practicality organs, however researchers are exploring new innovation in protection. The need of NHBD as below average organs for transplantation A report in a urology diary in 2009 portrayed how some American specialists transplanted a harmful kidney.â They evacuated the tumor and afterward transplanted it into the patient ( BBC.,2009). The explanation behind this shows the interest for organs continues raising while the flexibly is very low. In the UK, in December 2009, there were 8000 patients on the hanging tight rundown for organs, with just around 3000 transplants for every year. Numerous individuals are biting the dust because of this lack, along these lines specialists possibly utilizing unsafe organs. There are numerous reports demonstrating the advantages of NHBD in decreasing this lack and there is more weight for it to be effective. An ongoing UK information demonstrated that the achievement pace of NHBD are very like HBD (UK transplant 2006). Numerous examinations have indicated great unite endurance with NHBD particularly in renal transplantation in spite of the warm ischaemic harms ( Nicholson et at 2000, Wijn en et al,1995) . A report in the middle of 2005-2006 demonstrated that there were 125 NHBD transplants contrasted with 2004-2005 with just 87.â A little however huge increment (UK Transpkant., 2006). NHBD is financially savvy, for instance, a renal patient on dialysis cost an expected  £21,200 every year. With a fruitful transplant with a NHBD kidney, a middle join endurance of 9 years, the complete money saving advantage more than 9 years will be  £191,000 (UK Transplant). Along these lines diminishing the weight on the National Health Service and a superior life for the patient. End NHDB as a method was deserted in the 1970. It has now restored because of the long holding up list and the way that numerous individuals are kicking the bucket in light of organ deficiencies. This sort of organ gift offers incredible potential yet its utilization is extremely disruptive. There are such huge numbers of moral issues and advantages related with both the controlled and the uncontrolled structures gifts. In the uncontrolled contributor (class I ll), the assumed agree to perfuse the organs without the family or in the controlled donorâ (classification lll), the organization of medications to improve the reasonability of organs appears to be so deceptive and considered irreconcilable circumstances being partitioned between the obligation of care to the perishing giver and the conceivable transplant beneficiary. In some ethnic gatherings, groups of cerebrum dead contributors might be glad to do

5 Reasons Why You Should Read Album Liner Notes

5 Reasons Why You Should Read Album Liner Notes I love reading album liner notes. You know, the fine print on the inner sleeve of a vinyl record or inside the booklet that comes with the CD. I love liner notes because they contain information about musicians and bands that is rarely found in biographies or magazines. Here are five reasons why you should read album liner notes. 1) The Thank You List Almost all album liner notes contain lists where the musicians thank those who have been important to the making of the album or people who have supported them in their careers. Here you will find parents, significant others, friends, producers, and record company staff. When I started reading album liner notes in high school, a person who was often thanked on the albums I bought was business manager extraordinaire Sharon Osbourne, today perhaps best known to the general public as co-host of CBS’s The Talk. Then there are musicians like Jack White who on his latest solo album Lazaretto has taken the thank you list to a whole other level. Covering two entire pages of the CD booklet, White’s list includes everyone and everything from God and his children to bricks, plaster, unforeseen enemies, and John C. Reilly. 2) Discover Unknown Talents Liner notes reveal information about the talents of musicians in a way rarely addressed in interviews. In the liner notes to Muse’s album The Resistance, I was surprised to find that not only is singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy the main songwriter, he is also responsible for the orchestral arrangements, as well as being the one playing Fredric Chopin’s Nocturne in E flat major so beautifully at the end of the song “United States of Eurasia.” 3) Learn New Things The album cover of Muse’s album The 2nd Law features an amazing image. When I first saw it, I thought I was looking at a fiber optics cable. In the liner notes, I learned that the image is a neuron in the human brain, photographed by the Human Connectome Project at UCLA. And what does the album title allude to? The Second Law of Thermodynamics, of course. This law is explained in one of the song lyrics. Speaking of album covers, it was only through reading the liner notes to Leonard Cohen’s album Various Positions that I found out that the album cover is a Polaroid photograph that Cohen took of himself. 4) The Personal Tributes Alice in Chains is a band that has seen two of its founding members succumb to drug abuse. If you read the liner notes to their latest album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, interspersed among the lyrics you will find the birth dates of all current and past members in a subtle and touching tribute to those who are no longer with the band. 5) The Essays Liner notes can also contain essays written by someone who knew the musicians when the music on the album was recorded. One such essay is found in the liner notes of the album Live in Japan by Sleepy John Estes with Hammie Nixon. Written by Steve Tomashefsky, the essay tells the entertaining story of two elderly blues men traveling to Japan for a tour, only to realize that they forgot all their chewing tobacco in the States. The essay also tells the story of how Sleepy John Estes signed the touring contract with an X, never having learned how to write. And how Tomashefsky was the one who paid for Sleepy John Estes’ funeral in 1977. At the time of his death, Tomashefsky tells us in his essay, the legendary blues musician didn’t have enough money for his own remains to be buried.

Understanding White Supremacy

Historically, white supremacy has been understood as the belief that white people are superior to people of color. As such, white supremacy was the ideological driver of the European colonial projects and U.S. imperial projects: it was used to  rationalize unjust rule of people and lands, theft of land and resources, enslavement, and genocide. During these early periods and practices, white supremacy was backed by misguided scientific studies of physical differences on the basis of race and was also believed to take intellectual and cultural form. White Supremacy in US History The system of white supremacy was brought to the Americas by European colonists and took firm root in early U.S. society through the genocide, enslavement, and internal colonization of indigenous populations, and the enslavement of Africans and their descendants. The system of slavery in the U.S., the Black Codes that limited rights among newly freed blacks that were instituted following emancipation, and the Jim Crow laws that enforced segregation and also limited rights combined to make the U.S. a legalized white supremacist society through the late-1960s. During this period the Ku Klux Klan became a well-known symbol of white supremacy, as have other major historical actors and events, like the Nazis and the Jewish Holocaust, the apartheid regime of South Africa, and Neo-Nazi and white power groups today. As a result of the notoriety of these groups, events, and time periods, many people think of white supremacy as an overtly hateful and violent attitude toward people of color, which is considered a problem mostly buried in the past. But as the recent racist murder of nine Black people at Emanuel AME church has made clear, the hateful and violent breed of white supremacy is still very much a part of our present. Yet, it is important to recognize that white supremacy today is a multifaceted system that manifests in myriad ways, many not overtly hateful nor violent—in fact often quite subtle and unseen. This is the case today because U.S. society was founded, organized, and developed in a white supremacist context. White supremacy and the many forms of racism it employs is infused into our social structure, our institutions, our worldviews, beliefs, knowledge, and ways of interacting with each other. Its even encoded into some of our holidays, like Columbus Day, which celebrates a racist perpetrator of genocide. Structural Racism and White Supremacy The white supremacy of our society is evident in the fact that whites maintain a structural advantage over people of color in nearly every aspect of life. White people maintain an educational advantage, an income advantage, a wealth advantage, and a political advantage. White supremacy is also evident in the way communities of color are systematically over-policed (in terms of unjust harassment and unlawful arrest and brutalization), and under-policed (in terms of police failing to serve and protect); and in the way that experiencing racism takes a societal-wide negative toll on the life expectancy of Black people. These trends and the white supremacy they express are fueled by the false belief that society is fair and just, that success is the result of hard work alone, and an overall denial of the many privileges that whites in the U.S. have relative to others. Further, these structural trends are fostered by the white supremacy that lives within us, though we may be wholly unaware that it is there. Both conscious and subconscious white supremacist beliefs are visible in social patterns that show, for instance, that university professors give more attention to potential students who are white; that many people regardless of race believe that lighter skinned Black people are smarter than those with dark skin; and that teachers punish Black students more harshly for the same or even lesser offenses committed by white students. So while white supremacy might look and sound different than it has in centuries past, and may be experienced differently by people of color, it is very much a twenty-first-century phenomenon that must be addressed through critical self-reflection, the rejection of white privilege, and anti-racist activism. Red-letter day free essay sample

It is widely noted that lots of traditional culture is disappearing along with the development of technology. The new generation of Chinese are not as well-mannered as their forefathers, and Western festivals are exerting a negative influence on traditional Chinese ones. Many ancient architectures and traditional ways of living have been deserted. It seems that the traditional culture and craftsmanship will be replaced in this modern era. The following reasons can account for the above phenomenon. Firstly, traditional technologies are always considered ineffective while the new sciences are always highly efficient, because modern science and technology facilitate both our daily and academic life a lot, with which we can save much money and time. Secondly, we can’t neglect the negative effects of globalization it has on culture and society. In this globalized world, cities are becoming clones of each other, and people are converging into fake stereotypes; gone are the unique cities that carry so much history and culture in every corner. Morocco looks like Spain,London looks like Paris, which looks like Madrid. Restaurants serving this or that country’s traditional food are drowned out by the huge fast food chains. Beautiful traditional clothing is lost between the new bulk-made looks created by the big brands, people look alike, eat alike and dress alike whether they’re in New York, New Delhi or Morocco. Thirdly, it is costly to protect the traditional culture, especially the maintenance and repair of the historical buildings. In my opinion, traditional culture show where we came from and help us to understand ourselves better. In a recent TED talk a marine scientist brought out that people have a hard time looking at the past. He used pictures to show how big trophy fish were a few decades ago. And how people in general dont like to look back because it will make them face the reality of today. Many cultural traditions enrich our lives, and while some traditions might have been detrimental and have been done away with, others are beautiful and deserve to be practiced and preserved for future generations to enjoy. Human culture and traditions are subject to change as they are passed down the generations its like an inter-generational game of Chinese whispers. Some traditions that are inhumane, discriminatory or environmentally damaging should be allowed to die out, but many traditional arts and craft, folk tales and histories, environmental protection and survival techniques should be preserved as a valued aspect of human development as a link to our past and as the pointer to our future. The preservation of knowledge is never a waste. As oil runs out we may need to revert to some of our old ways to survive. Although traditional culture is an ancient heritage, it couldnt keep pace with the development of society. It is the tide of history that the traditional culture and technology will no doubt be eliminated in the end. In older anthropology textbooks, culture was identified with the products that a particular society produced: not just material artifacts, but also institutions, beliefs, concepts, values, and guidelines for behavior. All these translate into an observable pattern of behavior. In the old definition, a culture was the sum total of all these things. The behavior of people, along with everything that they produced: shrines, food, housing, burial rituals, and so forth, while taking account of the intricate network of relationships between all these cultural products. The new generation of Chinese are not as well-mannered as their forefathers, and Western festivals are exerting a negative influence on traditional Chinese ones Human culture and traditions are subject to change as they are passed down the generations its like an inter-generational game of Chinese whispers. Tolkiens Middle Earth Essay Example For Students

Tolkiens Middle Earth Essay In a discussion of great literary minds of the twentieth century, there is one name that always stands out. J. R. R. Tolkiens classic story Lord of the Rings is the measuring block by which all other fictional works of the twentieth century are compared. His engrossing characters, beautiful descriptions, and intriguing plot have enraptured generations of avid readers. The most endearing quality of the epic is Tolkiens ingenious use of archetypes, most notably the quest hero. Frodo Baggins possesses all of the qualities of a quest hero: courage, loyalty, and an unwavering sense of duty and responsibility. Frodo possesses loyalty and a willingness to act under the direction of others who may know better than he, even when he doesnt understand what it is he is being asked to do. He agrees to keep the ring in his possession after Bilbo leaves the Shire, he even accepts Gandalfs demand that the never use it, even though he has seen Bilbo do so many times. Frodo even accepts the horrible t ask laid on him by Elrond to bring the ring to Mount Doom deep in the heart of Mordor, the one place that he should fear above all others. I will take the Ring, he said, though I do not know the way (Tolkien 324) Frodo is willing to take this responsibility on himself, he doesnt even realize that he has no idea where to even begin his task. The hobbit is undyingly loyal to his comrades, even when their own minds lead them astray. We will write a custom essay on Tolkiens Middle Earth specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Boromir corners Frodo and proceeds to beg, demand, and then attempt to take the ring from him. Even though Frodo could have given in to Boromir, indeed he even wanted to be rid of his burden, he knew that the ring was his alone to bear, and that it would destroy the proud Boromir if he were to use it. He knows his place in the company, and he is determined to never let his companions down through his own weakness. Frodos strongest quality is his unnaturally strong sense of responsibility. Even when separated from the rest of the company, and with only his faithful friend Sam Gamgee at his side, Frodo presses on, finding a way into Mordor, something no sane person would ever want to do. No matter how desolate his situation became, no matter how hungry, tired and injured he was, Frodo never wavered from his goal. His face was grim set, but resolute. He was filthy, haggard, and pinched with weariness, but he cowered no longer, and his eyes were clear. I purpose to enter Mordor, and I knowno other way. Therefore I shall go this way, I do not ask anyone to go with me. (Tolkien 289)Frodo always swore to finish what he started. Gandalf put the ring into his care, so he believed that the destruction of the ring was his duty. He had to undertake this impossible quest for the good of a world that looked at his race as a joke of a species. Frodos own companion, his dearest friend Sam, eagerly wished for his master to turn away from his dreadful task. Sam begs and pleads with Frodo, does all he can to try and sway his master, always trying wanting to turn Frodo away from Mordor and certain death. But the determined hobbit will not be swayed, Heres the gate, and it looks to me as if thats about as far as we are ever going to get! (Tolkien 288) Still Frodo pressed on, he knew in his heart that he had to complete his quest, no matter the odds against him. .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 , .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .postImageUrl , .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 , .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4:hover , .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4:visited , .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4:active { border:0!important; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4:active , .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4 .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u81c00f95368eb6eebfc56f9e5d9eacb4:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Importance of Education to My Life EssayProbably Frodos most heroic quality is his inhuman, or rather, inhobbit courage. Again and again he presses on in the face of danger. Whether under attack by one of the nazgul, the giant spider Shelob, or the obsessed Smeagol, Frodo perseveres. He always manages to defeat or escape from certain death, carrying on his all-important task. Frodos quest changes him in this respect. The Quasi-adjective Couple

The Quasi-adjective Couple The Quasi-adjective Couple The Quasi-adjective Couple By Maeve Maddox Many English speakers cringe to hear the following construction: Jack has a couple tickets for the play. Counting myself among the cringers, I prefer the standard construction: Jack has a couple of tickets for the play. I prefer the latter usage because I cant accept couple as an adjective describing tickets. To me the dropped of comes across as slovenly speech. As a noun couple means a union of two. It had its origin as a hunting term for a leash for holding two hounds together. In modern usage it often means a man and woman united by love or marriage. Well, now it can also mean a man and man or a woman and a woman etc. As a verb couple means to tie or fasten together in pairs, or to join or connect in any way. The OED offers two main entries for couple, one as noun and one as a verb. The adjectival use is noted under the noun entry: quasi-adj. a couple more (..), two more (colloq.). All of the OED examples given for this colloquial use of couple are used with the word more: Just you hang on for a couple minutes more a couple more cops to hold them at a decent distance I wonder if I could dictate a couple more letters Its going to be a couple more months..before we decide what to do. The dropping of the of in expressions in which couple is followed by a word other than more is described as a U.S. colloquialism. The spelling coupla is also documented and given an entry as a U.S. colloquial form of couple of. One of the examples is from the writing of English writer Dorothy Sayers: 1934 Nine Tailors III. II. 276 Hed had nothing to eat..for a coupla days. It seems to me that the spelling coupla has a certain merit. At least it sounds like an adjective, whereas a couple tickets just sounds incorrect. Merriam-Webster Unabridged treats couple as a genuine adjective meaning two and gives the examples a couple more oaths and a couple nights ago. If couple in these examples means two, I wonder why the article a would be necessary: a two more oaths; a two nights ago. No amount of carping will alter the fact that the a couple tickets construction is here to stay, but you wont catch me using it. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Brand Image and Corporate Identity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Brand Image and Corporate Identity - Essay Example The two elements, brand name, and corporate identity must be addressed for the success of the firm. A brand name offers a distinction between a company’s product and other substitutes in the market. The main aim of the brand name is to enable customers to distinguish a particular product from a pool of substitutes. An effective marketing plan includes a brand name that the organization holds onto to enhance better response from customers. Marketing executives create unique brand names that are attractive to the customers and also create a clear distinction with other products such that customers can easily memorize and identify the brand. A successful brand name must be relevant, coherent, differentiated and be able to create a reputation. One of the firms that have a successful brand name is The Coca-Cola Company. Its brand name, Coca-Cola, has stood out in the face of stiff competition. The brand name is common to many soft drink buyers around the globe. The company uses its one brand name strategy to penetrate new markets and also maintain its existing market share (Lamb, Hair & McDaniel 2010). The brand, Coca-Cola, is known in virtually every household and thus cannot be confused with any other brand. A Brand name is made to stick into the target market and create a long-lasting loyalty to the brand despite other shortcomings of the firm (Berens, Riel & Bruggen 2005). Every product of a firm contains the brand name that acts as the marketing cornerstone. As such, marketers must ensure that the brand name is capable of attracting the target audience and also promote it aggressively so that it reigns in purchasing decisions made in the target market. Moreover, a brand name enhances the investors’ perception of the products of the firm and thus attracts investors, shareholders, and creditors. The corporate identity of a firm represents the general or the overall way.

Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 12

Leadership - Essay Example In the film Dead Poet’s Society, by Peter Weir, Mr. Keating, is an English teacher at an old preparatory school, who steers his students to greater heights, by teaching his students, through experience, how to think critically. Dead Poet’s Society features a leader, Mr. Keating, an English teacher, who is very disturbing, but at the same time curiously inspiring. Mr. Keating steers his students to love learning and poetry, completely changing their controlled and structured academic existence. He crosses boundaries that should otherwise not be crossed by someone traditionally demanding of respect and authority. He arrives at Hillside Academy, a preparatory school for old boys, to start working as an English teacher. He is an inspirational and involved teacher, who uses declarations, "Carp Per Diem† to conquer the day. Among others, he quotes Whitman Walt and relates his overall theme of rising above mediocrity and convention, to these literary passages. He encourages his students to approach learning through a more intuitive and deeper understanding of life from literature, as opposed to rote memorization and structure. Mr. Keating illustrates two different methods of leadership. It displays individual reactions to each other, and the consequences of these leadership methods. The leadership approach of Mr. Keating’s creates a strong student- teacher bond thus empowering them to be successful. In his classroom, students have no other choice than to think for themselves. Keating’s actions and words strengthen his personal connection to his students as well as a sense of trust. Trust goes a long way in creating respect, concern, fairness and understanding. However, he at times sets up himself as the only one who can lead students to this greater understanding, but his motivation is wholly admirable. This attempt, unconscious about his part, paradoxically creates a similar situation that

The Godfather Movie Analysis Film Studies Essay

The Godfather Movie Analysis Film Studies Essay The Godfather (1972) is a one of a kind movie; it is even considered by many an American classic. The American Film Institute (AFI) has The Godfather listed at number two in 2008 as one of the greatest films in American culture today. This movie has everything from great action scenes to world famous actors. This movie stars Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and James Cann among many others. The Godfather portrays one major theme throughout the entire movie and that is violence. Almost every scene in this movie is either a shot of actual violence accruing or the audience sees some of the characters talking about violence. However, it is the violence in this movie that makes it the classic it is today. The opening scene in The Godfather is of man pleading with Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) to hurt some men out of justice for his daughter. This man tells his story of his daughter being taken advantage of by some young men and it is indicated to the audience that this mans daughter was raped. This opening scene is dark with very little light shown which sets the mood for the entire movie. The audience gets the sense right away the Don Corleone holds the power to make things happen such as justice and make people pay for the wrong they have caused. After what seems to be an eternity Don Corleone grants the man his wish to bring justice to his daughter but in exchange Don Corleone tells the man that one day in the future he will call upon him for a favor. It is here in this scene that we see that Don Corleone is in charge and that violence is the reoccurring theme in the entire movie. The next scene is of a singer Johnny Fontane (Al Martino) which happens to be Don Corleones godson. Johnny is there to ask the Godfather for his help in landing a lead role in an upcoming movie. Johnny believes that if he gets this role it will help boost his career and stardom again. With this request Corleone sends his adopted son Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) to California to make the director of the movie cast Johnny. After the director refuses to cast Johnny, Tom Hagen cuts the head off the directors favorite horse and puts it in the directors bed while he is sleeping. We assume that after this violence occurs the director casts Johnny in his movie. When the camera shoots to the director in bed there is a lot of blood and the audience actually gets to see a severed horse head. This is scene is very gruesome and realistic. After this scene it is clear that if the Corleone family doesnt get or hear what they want that they will use any action to make their needs met. This scene is use d to show the power the Corleone family holds throughout the country. Again violence was the main objective in this scene. In the upcoming scenes in The Godfather are some of the most important events in the movie because these events are what lead to the continuation of the movie. When Hagen returns from California, the entire Corleone entourage goes to a very important meeting where they meet up with a man named Virgil Sollozzo (Al Lettieri.) Sollozzo wants Corleones corporation in protecting the rival Tattaglia family because of their interest in getting started in trafficking heroin. Coreleone refuses to help because he believes that getting involved with narcotics will destroy his political connections and his reputation. After this meeting Corleone becomes very concerned and sends one of his biggest men, Luca Brasi (Lenny Montana) to check in with Sollozzo to see what he is up to but while Brasi is there he is stabbed in the hand and is beaten to death. Again, we see violence used as a way to get things done. Brasi is killed because Sollozzo is being set up. It comes as a shock to the audience beca use in this scene all of the characters are standing calmly talking to one another when all of a sudden a man takes a knife and stabs Brasi hand into the counter top. The audience gets to experience the entirety of how horrific it is for Brasi because the camera is focused on Brasi hand when the knife goes through it. In this scene it is clear that other families have efficient ways of handling business. It seems as though there is a competition between the different families and who ever can do the most damage is the family who holds the most power. The next major, important scene is where Corleone is shopping in an outdoor market, purchasing fruit. Corleone has his back towards the camera and the audience feels that something bad is about to happen. Moments later the camera shows men running towards Corleone with guns pointed toward him. These men start shooting Corleone until he falls to the ground. These men shot Corleone because he refused Sollozzos offer. At the same time Corleone is being shot, Sollozzo captures Hagen and tries to convince him to tell Corleones oldest son Sonny (James Cann) to take the offer. This is one of the less graphic scenes the audience gets to experience, this is probably done discretely because it represents the respect people hold for Corleone. Here, the audience experiences more of an emotional effect when Corleone is shot. Even though he is a mob boss the audience has learned to except and like Corleone and to see him shot causes sadness. There is hope for us that he is okay and that becomes a relief. The youngest son out of the Corleone family is Micheal (Al Pacino) who is a war hero and is assumed to not follow in the family mob business. This all changes though when Michael goes to visit his father in the hospital and realizes that there is a set up occurring in an attempt to try and kill his father for a second time. When Micheal stops the murder attempt, a corrupt police caption name McCluskey (Sterling Hayden) breaks his jaw out of frustration. Sonny then retaliates by killing Tattaglias son. This is almost another touching scene because we see how emotional Corleone sons are towards their father. The audience really starts to see the meaning of family and how strong their bond is. Michael is really starts to be seen here because he steps up and keeps his cool unlike his brother Sonny. This family is willing to do anything to keep each other together and safe. After Michael gets his jaw broken there is a fire inside of him that is initiated and he wants to seek revenge not only for himself but also for the attempt on his fathers life. With that being said he meets Sollozzo and McCluskey at a small Italian restaurant to settle and end this dispute. Halfway through the meal Michael asks to use the bathroom; in the bathroom Michal has planted a gun so he could kill Solozzo and McCuskey. As Michael returns to the table we hear the sound of a subway train which is loud and very squeaky and this sound contradicts the calm movement and expression on Michaels face. Because of the harsh sound of the subway and Michaels cool attitude the audience knows something bad is about to happen. Then all of sudden Micheal pulls out the gun and shots Sollozzo and McCluskey it the head. At this point the audience starts to notice the strength of violence in this film but it is done in almost a tasteful way. There is never a crime committed in this movie that is nt done without purpose and deep thought. Every murder is thought out and planned carefully. The mafia business is scary to the audience but for these characters it is everyday business that they have to take care of. Even though there is a great deal of violence in this movie and around the corner of every scene there seems to be a murder or crime being committed there is something else the audience gets to experience and that is the strength of family unity. The Corleone family has a very strong bond and will do anything to keep the family safe and together. We especially see this when Sonny gets a phone call from his sister Connie (Talia Shire.) Connie proceeds to tell Sonny that she is being abused by her husband Carlo (Gianni Russo.) With this news Sonny goes and beats up Carlo and warns him that if he touches his sister again he will kill Carlo. Just as the audience expected Carlo beats Connie again and so now Sonny goes to kill him but while Sonny is at a toll booth he is ambushed and shot to death but the other rival families. The last major scene that involves violence is at the very end of the film. The scene starts with christening of Connies baby where Michael is to assume role of the godfather to the child. As the christening proceeds has planned the assassination of the murder for each the heads of the rival families. While the audience sees shots of the christening taking place there is also scene shots of the murders of the heads of the family. Each head is shot to death and this shows the power Michael has now. Michael can be doing some completely different but has the control to handle business while doing something so pure, such as being at a christening. There is great irony in that. It shows the value of family but also how the family business will take over Michaels life. The Living Dead of Afghanistan Essays -- Essays Papers

The Living Dead of Afghanistan Travesties are committed against women every day, in every country, in every city, town and home. In Afghanistan women are not only discriminated against, they are publicly reduced to animals. Women are deprived of basic human rights: they are not allowed to travel outside their homes without being completely covered by the traditional shroud-like burqa; they are not allowed to speak or walk loudly in public; they are not allowed to laugh or speak with other women; they are not allowed to attend school nor work; they are expected to be invisible; they are the ghosts of what were once educated, notable, and successful women. With their ruthless and extreme laws, the Taliban have effectively removed the physical presence of women in Afghanistan. The Taliban have stolen the very souls of these women and have turned them into the â€Å"living dead† of Afghanistan. The Taliban’s harsh restrictions and extreme religious laws have tainted the freedoms and basic human rights of the once valued and prominent women of Afghanistan. In 1996, the Taliban took control of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. A report by the U.S. Department of State describes that this takeover was done in a very brutal and violent manner and the Taliban left the proof of their victory hanging in the streets of the city for over a week (par. 2). In Jan Goodwin’s article, Buried Alive, it is written that the men who are in charge of enforcing the laws of the Taliban are called the Department of the Propagation of Virtue and the Suppression of Vice; these men also punish citizens who disobey the laws. The majority of this group is made up of fifteen year old boys carrying machine guns, but also consists of men arme... ...stated in an interview with reporter Jan Goodwin that: â€Å"Our current restrictions are necessary in order to bring the Afghan people under control. We need these restrictions until people learn to obey the government† (par. 48). Women’s lives have changed drastically since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. They have been deprived of basic human rights and been reduced to faceless figures that roam the streets of Afghanistan like ghosts. Most of the world could never imagine the shock of not being able to go to work or wear your regular clothes, to be deprived of such things would be utterly terrible. The Taliban have tried to smother the flames of these women but they refuse to die they refuse to stop shining. These women are strong and will eventually overcome the oppressive rule and rise up from the ashes from which they have been forced to lay.

Methods of Research

Price Scientist conducts research on a daily basis. The purpose of this research is exploration, description, explanation, and application. In the area of criminal Justice things are getting researched all of the time. Take murder for example, the police have to explore to find out what actually happened. They have to describe the events leading up the the murder. They have to explain the facts to try and come up with a suspect. Finally, they have to use the process of application to put it all together so they can make an arrest. When using the different purposes of research it Is important to examine each purpose by Itself because each purpose has Its own different aspect when It comes to research design. The exploration stage Is the first stage that researchers begin with when using research methods. â€Å"This stage is typically done for three purposes: to satisfy the researcher does curiosity and desires for better understand, to test the feasibility of undertaking a more extens ive study, and to develop the methods to be employed in any subsequent studies. (Grossman, 2014) A researcher will use the exploration take of research when they want to find out about something that there is little known about. Take drugs for example; let's say a researcher wants to find out how bad the drug problem is in the United States. There are a couple categories that a researcher may want to explore. Such as; â€Å"how many were arrested for drug sales or possession each year and how many hours per day do drug dealers work and how much do they make? † (Misfield & Babble, 2009) The next purpose of research is description. The researcher explores and then describes what they explored. For example; the U. S. Census, â€Å"the goal of the census Is to describe accurately and precisely several characteristics of the U. S. Population, including race/ethnicity, age, sex, household size, and income. † (Grossman, 2014) The description stage is widely used in the crimina l Justice field. For example; it is used to describe a certain crime problem that a certain city or state may be having. It can be used to measure how much burglary is committed in the city of Joplin, Missouri. The descriptive stage is used to answer the questions what, when, where, and how something happened. The third stage of research is the explanation stage. The explanation stage attempts to describe why something happened. The description and the explanation stages work together. The descriptive stage explains what happened the explanation stage explains why It happened. Take the burglary rate In Joplin the descriptive stage tells you how much burglary Is committed and the explanation stage will tell you why burglary is committed in Joplin. Application research: evaluation and policy and problem analysis. An example would be â€Å"determining whether a program designed to reduce burglary actually had the intended effect. (Maxwell & Babble, 2009) Criminal Justice organizations gather all their research from exploration, description, and explanation in the application process to come up with a conclusion for all their research. There are four different stages of research that the criminal Justice organizations use to find answers to things that are unknown and also to find out the what, where, when how, and why things happen. Most researches that are done contain all four stages of research. For example take auto theft. A researcher would use the exploration stage to learn about the case.

Reading Assignment †4. Hey, You, Get Off Of My Cloud

Reading Assignment – 4 Hey, You, Get Off of My Cloud: Exploring Information Leakage in Third-Party Compute Clouds Shilpa Repala- (U00814466) The intermediary or third parties of cloud computing resources is so well-known now-a-days. These intermediaries lease a Virtual Machine to a client. A solitary physical machine can provide the functions of numerous Virtual Machines. The current paper clarifies how the existence of various VMs on a solitary physical machine be defenseless against assaults by considering the systems the authors have utilized here as the Amazon EC2 for their contextual analysis. This paper predominantly concentrates on an issue that leads to inter channel information disclosure or leaks (which might happen for the†¦show more content†¦Making Amazon EC2 as a research aspect, they demonstrate that it is easy to recognize where a specific target VM is probably going to live (called as network probing) and then start new Virtual Machines until the new one is co-resident with considered target machine (called as co-resident technique). Also with this they investigated how the position of such VM ca n then lead to cross-talk assaults across various machines and loss of information transparency. The first approach is to find the DNS by resolving the query and finding the internal IP address associated and the name of the instance. By exploiting the use of a function called map in EC2, we become acquainted with the area of probable suffering VM and all the parameters in regards to the instantiation of instance. Just later to knowing the cartography of cloud, checking if any two instances are dwelling or using the same physical resource is confirmed. In this scenario, this is confirmed by going through the attributes Dom0 IP, Internal IP and round-trip times of the packets. It checks if the Dom0 IP of both instances is same, if there are short round-trip delays and nearer internal IP addresses. To initiate the instances on exact machine as that of our target machine, we instantiate numerous instances or VMs until it goes exactly to required machine using naà ¯ve brute-force approach or we may directly use location of new VM. Brute force approach is advantageous over others in the sense that it may notShow MoreRelatedMy Family s House On The Kitchen Island1523 Words   |  7 PagesEl Salvador, Cuscatlà ¡n Cento America, October 4, 1990’s.
